How it works
Therapy in Fergus ON | Wellington County Therapy
01.
It can be extremely nerve wracking to book in for your first counselling session. It’s important for you to know that we always meet our clients where they are at!
The initial session is a chance for each of us to get to know one another better and see if we will be a good fit to work together.
02.
During your first meeting you and your therapist will discuss what’s been happening in your life lately and what has prompted you to begin therapy at this time. Together you will explore many aspects of your life, including your family of origin, your childhood, and any significant life events that have occurred. This helps your therapist get to know YOU and understand your experience!
03.
From here we begin to dive deeper into the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that you are struggling with. Together we work to identify the patterns that are holding you back in your life and begin working to understand the motivations for engaging in these patterns and the underlying fears that may be perpetuating them. Once you have awareness of what your patterns are, when they are triggered, and how they hinder you, we work to find ways for you to begin taking steps to change them.
Frequently Asked Questions
At Wellington County Therapy, we offer a range of therapy options to meet your needs. Our fees are:
Clinical Interns: $115 per session
Associate Therapists: $160 per session
Clinic Director: $170 per session
A valid credit card is required to self-register online. This credit card will be securely stored in your Jane account, the online booking software used, and charged upon the completion of your session. In certain cases e-transfers may also be accepted.
Many insurance plans include coverage under extended health benefits for counselling with a Registered Psychotherapist and/or Registered Social Worker. If you are seeing our clinical intern you will need to inquire about coverage with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
Unfortunately, since insurance plans are unique and vary across employers and employees, it is impossible to speak to what each individual’s plan would cover. Please confirm with your insurance provider what your specific coverage is prior to your initial session.
It may be helpful to confirm the following information with your benefits provider:
- Do they cover a Registered Psychotherapist/Registered Social Worker?
- What percentage of the session cost is reimbursed per session?
- What is your total coverage amount for the year (overall maximum)?
There is a 24-hour cancellation policy. If a session is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled start time, the full session fee will be applied.
Your story is unique, your therapy should be too! We work together with clients to decide on a frequency that feels best for them at this time.
Ideally, we recommend beginning with weekly or bi-weekly sessions as this provides good momentum in building a solid therapeutic relationship while addressing your most distressing concerns.
Throughout your time in therapy, your therapist will consistently check in with you to gauge how you are feeling about the process and your progress. When clients begin to experience corrective change, the frequency of visits are reduced. Eventually you will transition from weekly or bi-weekly, to every three weeks, or monthly, based on your needs and goals.
If your needs change, you are always able to request an increase or decrease in the frequency of your visits.
The first session can be daunting, and nerve wracking, especially if this is your first experience in therapy. Your first session is best viewed as an information gathering session, both for yourself and your therapist. Your therapist will begin by exploring what brings you into therapy at this point in your life and the changes you are seeking from therapy. The first session is also a good opportunity for you to determine if the therapist is a good match for you. Come exactly as you are. Our therapists offer a warm, genuine environment and will meet you at whichever point you are at in your healing journey. Please have your intake form filled out prior to your appointment time to make the most of your session.
